Workshop in Bali

Workshop in Bali

NEW! Gaya is donating 50% of the course fee to charities assisting with the Australian bushfire crisis. A great way to donate to the cause & spend two weeks hanging out with me in Bali!!!

From the 29th March to the 11th of April 2020 I’m running an intensive workshop for two whole weeks in beautiful Bali at the fabulous Gaya Ceramic Arts Centre in Ubud.

From the Gaya website:

HARNESSING THE ELEMENTS: Earth, Water, Air, Fire, Aether

Spend some quality time with Made OF Australia founder Anna-Marie Wallace learning how to connect with your DNA deep memories of making with your hands using minimal tools & basic materials, then complement your ceramic work with other media from the environment around you. Works will be twice fired, & after saggar firing will be sealed with Liquid Quartz. You will also be guided through how to choose your firing ingredients & load the saggars to be able to recreate the process at home. Participants will also spend some time learning how to best photograph the resulting works (either for sale, portfolio, or simply for social media & personal documentation). This two week intensive workshop is a great way to get acquainted with alternative firing, or take your current practice to the next level.

This workshop is open to all levels of experience, even beginners, as we will be revisiting simple techniques that do not require equipment you can’t find at home, but taking them as far as your skill level will go. I’ll be sharing my signature soft slab building technique with maleable vermiculite filled moulds, that is used to make our famous Ovoid Vessels, as well as pinch & coil methods for those who would like to start with basics. We’ll also be taking a look at kurinuki & other less known techniques.

We’ll be exploring where our desire to make comes from – our ancestral connection to working with our hands, as well as making things to accompany our work that aren’t made of clay (like cordage, weaving, & carving from found materials etc.). We will fire twice, & of course learn how to use Liquid Quartz to make the pieces waterproof & functional. We will even have an iPhoneography session so you’ll go away ready to tackle social media like a pro! All general studio materials, firings, transport during workshop hours, excursions around Bali, welcome dinner, & lunches at the studio are included in the tuition fee, so you need only book your flights & accomodation according to your budget & timing.

Places are very limited, so book in ASAP here:
